Clear morning.

Quite a clear and hot day. With the Water Vapor available in the atmosphere, it is the recipe for an afternoon rain. Last rain like this was 5 days ago.

The habagat has also weakened.

Observation/opinion:

Please feel free to correct me:

Rains in Southern Isabela are primarily driven by typhoons, fronts and local stratiform and convective precipitation due to the heat of the day.

I was not expecting rain today. We had big clouds nevertheless. We had a short burst of rain for 30 mins around 7:00 PM. You can even see the rain in the clouds in the picture below.

May 12, 2025

Dry for the past 16 days. No rain. For those days, only the northern Cagayan areas had popcorn convection. This morning was humid, 30° at 7 am. Two days ago it was 28°. I guessed it would rain today. Correct. Convection occured over Natonin. In my observations, convections that occur around Paracelis would mean rain reaching the valley. Would I be correct? I'll upload videos on my Threads.  Things I learned today: kelvin wave, spring variability See the flooded ground? Dry, compact soil is less absorbent. This is the reason why torrential downpours that happen after long stretches of dry weather cause flooding. The soil is not ready to absorb the water.

May 28, 2026 - Thunderstorm, Lightning and What I Believe Was A Cloudburst

Ordinary hot day. Around 5:30 PM, the skies darkened quickly. Crackling thunder and lightning strike as if they were was just above us. (Check Threads for videos) Convection over Ilagan and Roxas. Typhoon-like rain and winds, almost zero visibility. Water gathered quickly.  After a good 30 mins, the skies cleared. I believe we were at the edge of the storm.
